This 6-day road trip takes you from Marrakech to the majestic dunes of Chegaga, crossing oases, historic kasbahs, Berber villages, and the lunar landscapes of southern Morocco. The itinerary blends cultural exploration with immersion in nature, featuring two nights in a nomadic desert camp at the heart of the desert.

day 1

Marrakech – Agdz through Ouarzazate​ (5h / 270 km)

Early departure at 8:30 AM from your hotel or riad in Marrakech, heading towards the south of Morocco via the spectacular High Atlas Mountains road.

• Crossing the legendary Tizi-n-Tichka Pass, the highest in the country (2260 m), offering breathtaking views of the Atlas peaks.

• Stop at the Telouet Kasbah, former residence of the legendary Pasha Glaoui, still showcasing carved ceilings and beautiful multicolored zellige tiles.

• Continue through the stunning Ounila Valley, a hidden gem with ochre canyons and Berber villages clinging to the mountainside.

• Explore the magnificent ksar of Aït Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its earthen architecture and international film shoots.

Lunch at a local restaurant, with a view of the ksar or near the city of Ouarzazate.

• Discover Ouarzazate, Morocco’s cinematic capital, also known as "the Hollywood of Morocco", with its famous studios and kasbahs.

• Arrival in Agdz at the end of the day, a small town on the edge of the Moroccan desert, nestled in a lush oasis and the majestic palm groves of the Drâa Valley.

day 2

Agdz – Zagora – Chegaga Dunes (240 km / 4h)

  • Breakfast at the hotel in Agdz
  • Departure through the Draa Valley:
    • Discovery of Morocco’s longest river
    • Traditional kasbahs and ksours
    • Endless palm groves
  • Passing through Zagora and Tamegroute:
    • Visit to traditional green pottery workshops
    • Optional visit to the Quranic library
  • Continue to M'Hamid El Ghizlane:
    • Last village before the desert
    • Lunch on-site
  • 2-hour off-road track between sandy desert and stony reg to the Chegaga dunes
  • Welcome at the nomadic camp with a welcome tea
  • Sunset over the great dunes
  • Traditional dinner and night at the bivouac in tents with musical entertainment around the fire

DAY 3

Chegaga Dunes – Relaxation and Discovery

  • Breakfast at the camp in the Chegaga dunes
  • Free morning in the desert:
    • Time to relax, enjoy the silence, and contemplate the landscape
    • Opportunity to photograph the Saharan scenery
  • Camel ride to the oasis of Umm Laalag
  • Picnic lunch in the shade of the acacia trees or at the oasis
  • Return to the camp by camel or 4x4 (depending on your preference)
  • Free afternoon to enjoy the peace and landscape
  • Dinner and second night at the desert camp

DAY 4

Chegaga – Foum Zguid – Tata (210 km /4h30)

  • Breakfast at the camp in the Chegaga dunes
  • Departure by 4x4 across the desert:
    • Crossing the dry lake of Iriki
    • Wild panoramas at the edge of the desert
    • Skirting the Bani Mountains
  • Fossil hunting along the way
  • Arrival in Foum Zguid for lunch
  • Continuation to Tata:
    • Check-in at the hotel or guesthouse
  • Dinner and overnight in Tata

day 5

Tata – Taroudant (250 km / 4h)

  • Breakfast at the hotel in Tata
  • Departure towards Taroudant:
    • Drive through the landscapes of the Anti-Atlas mountains
    • Crossing valleys, oases, and traditional villages
    • Fertile agricultural areas with almond trees, olive groves, and cereals
  • Visit of an ancient communal Berber granary (agadir)
  • Lunch with a local family in a Berber village
  • Journey continues through argan tree forests
  • Arrival in Taroudant:
    • Explore the “Little Marrakech,” former Saadian capital
  • Check-in at the hotel, dinner and overnight stay

day 6

Taroudant – Marrakech (260 km / 3h30)

  • Breakfast at the hotel in Taroudant
  • Stroll through the medina:
    • Explore the lively alleyways
    • Discover the local way of life
    • Artisan souks and historic ramparts
  • Departure to Marrakech via the direct road or highway
  • Arrival in Marrakech in the early/mid-afternoon
